Fading Interval Ensemble is an ensemble consisting of some of the premiere Stockholm-based musicians operating in the fields of improvised and contemporary music. With a special emphasis on Extended Just Intonation Harmony, the 8 members of the ensemble collectively explore harmonic sound through notated and improvised musical contexts. The members of the ensemble hold knowledge in varied musical styles, from Dhrupad, Sundanese karawitan, Gagaku, Western contemporary music as well as jazz and different shadings of improvised music, influencing each musician’s relationship to intonation. This brings together a vast array of different approaches, all contributing to a larger whole.

Initiated by Mattias Hållsten in 2022, the ensemble has since then developed continuously with different constellations, and this concert will be the largest version of the ensemble yet. For this concert, the ensemble will premiere two new works: Its Long Fall Through the Sky by Mattias Hållsten, and Ionisk Morgon (Ionian Morning) by Kristofer Svensson, who plays kecapi in the ensemble. Both pieces were composed specifically for this ensemble.
